PACASE CONFERENCE

IN COLLABORATION WITH PaTTAN AND PDE

The Leadership Initiative continues…

YOU are the essential piece

A partnership has been developed with PA Council for Administrators for Special Education (PACASE), PaTTAN and the PA Department of Education (PDE) to begin a Leadership Initiative for administrators.  It was kicked off in the summer at the Leadership Academy in a newly renovated Bedford Springs resort.  Exceptional training opportunities were part of the program.  The PACASE Conference was the second of the three main opportunities.  The third major component of the initiative will be at the PDE Conference in February.  Throughout the year there are numerous training options which are supported by this initiative.

The PACASE Conference was a great success.  Dr. Gina R. Scala, current interim president of PACASE, welcomed everyone to the conference day.  Participants were offered a variety of breakout sessions.  Excellent content and materials were part of the morning breakout sessions which included:

Resolution Meeting Training:

Suzanne McDougall,

Kay Lipitz,

Judy Ball

Mental Health Services in Schools:

Diane Libby

Administrative Support of Special Education Teachers:

Michel Miller

John Tommasini, current Director of the Bureau of Special Education, presented a very thorough update on Special Education in Pennsylvania.  The luncheon was culminated with an opportunity for participants to ask questions and clarify areas of concern.

The afternoon featured a Law Institute, a request from past participants.  Andrew Faust, an attorney with Sweet, Stevens, Katz, & Williams, provided the most current information on the law and its impact on the daily responsibilities of administrators.

All participants received Act 48 credits which were mailed to them at the completion of the conference.  In addition, PACASE was approved to award CLU law credits for the conference.
