Pennsylvania Division Developmental Disabilities

Our Mission:

  1. To advance the education and general welfare of individuals with mental retardation and developmental disabilities.
  2. To promote research and enhance the competency of educators in the field of education of individuals with mental retardation and developmental disabilities.
  3. To collaborate with other organizations on issues relating to mental retardation and developmental disabilities, and to disseminate such information to its members.
  4. To foster public understanding of mental retardation and developmental disabilities.
  5. To support the goals of the Council for Exceptional Children and its members, and to support legislation needed to accomplish all these goals.

What is DDD?

The Division on Developmental Disabilities (DDD) is the official division of the Council for Exceptional Children (CEC) whose purpose is to advance the education and general welfare of individuals with mental retardation, developmental disabilities, and intellectual challenges, and to serve them.

Membership in DDD has numerous advantages. DDD offers many opportunities for professional growth and networking with colleagues who share a common interest. In addition to a biennial conference with a focus on research, trends, and educational practices, DDD sponsors sessions on mental retardation and developmental disabilities at the CEC Annual International Convention, during which intensive one-day programs are devoted to relevant topics. Additionally, PA-DDD sponsors strands at the PACEC Conference held in Grantville in November and is planning additional joint conferences throughout the state with other Pennsylvania subdivisions.

PACEC-DDD OFFICERS FOR 2007-2008

During the DDD luncheon and meeting on November 3rd, new officers were elected for the 2007-2008 year.  The following individuals were elected to office, effective July 1, 2007:

Our division was pleased to offer a series of four (4) presentations as part of the “DDD Showcase Sessions” at this year’s convention.  We also participated in the Sub-Division Luncheon and sponsored a booth in the vendor area.  This year’s showcase sessions were:

 

Our annual business meeting and elections were held on November 1st during the sub-division luncheon.  We discussed proposed topics for next year’s convention, began exploring the possibility of hosting meetings and trainings in conjunction with our PASCEC chapters and coordinated by DDD and the PACEC Regional Directors, and held elections for officers for 2008.  Officers for 2008 will be:

All members of the Division on Developmental Disabilities (DDD) will receive the journal, Focus on Autism and Other Developmental Disabilities. Members also receive the official Division Journal, Education and Training in Developmental Disabilities
